This same thing happened to me during my first pregnancy. It cleared itself up during the second trimester. I hear that this is rather common and not something to worry about.
Just don’t try to move any furniture or run any marathons!
I had to have a scan at 12 weeks and they detected marginal previa. At 16 weeks I had to have another one and it was gone. During that 4 week time frame, I was put on pelvic rest. No vaginal penetration of any kind. If your doc thinks you MIGHT have it, chances are it’s marginal and it’ll move in a few more weeks. Partial and complete previa are the types you really have to worry about.
Placenta previa is the condition where the placenta attaches to the cervix and blocks it, either completely or fully. Usually the placenta will attach to the uterine wall where it will not impede the baby’s exit from the womb.
Placenta previa means that you will have a c-section, as your child will be unable to pass through the cervix to enter the birth canal. If you go into labor before your scheduled c-section, you may encounter some complications. However, because you and your doctors are aware of the situation, it should pose no threat to you or your baby.
I am so sorry! I personally was very excited about having a natural childbirth, only to have an emergency c-section because my son was going into distress. It was a sad experience for me, even though I got a wonderful baby.
I have known many women who have had planned cesareans who were thrilled about them, though. Because you will have a planned surgery, you should get only a small white line for a scar, and your recovery will most likely be quick. You also will get an absolute delivery date, which is rather nice.
Just think – if the surgery were not available, both you and your baby would surely die.
Placenta previa is a condition when the placenta is located partially or completely over the cervix and is prone to sudden bleeding before or during labor. Most placenta previas move away from the cervix during the second trimester and should be monitored by frequent ultrasounds. If it doesn’t move before your approaching due date your doctor should tell you the choices you can make for delivery.
hi im also 14 weeks and have the same thing my midwife has advised me to rest when i can and not to worry. i have had several bleeds during my pregnancy due to this which has been very scary. i have regular checks and will also have regular scans after my 20 week one. all being well it will go on its own and everything will be fine good luck to you .xxxx
I had a low lying placenta at my 20week scan, but I was told that whilst it could stay there and cause plancenta praevia, it could just as easily move back to where it was meant to be, which it did in my case, I was told to go for a scan at 32 weeks to check it, and everything was perfect, except that my daughter suddenly had the measurements of a 36week old…
but everything all worked out perfectly, I had a normal delivery at four days past my due date.
I think they tell you not to worry because ther is still a good chance the placenta will move higher up in the uterus. I know you’re still gonna worry (I would), but trust that you doctor knows what he is doing……and, you’ll get more ultra-sounds to check on the status of the placenta. Good luck!
